Appraisal

...to know where your company's or organization's process maturity is in relation to your improvement objectives or in relation to the industry.
For example:

• A client wants to know your maturity level based on an objective and recognized appraisal
• The Management of your company or organization has fixed a goal of developing an improvement plan after an appraisal has revealed the weaknesses and strengths of the development or maintenance practices
• You wish to conduct an exhaustive analysis of your maintenance or development practices
• You are looking for an accredited lead appraiser to conduct an official appraisal of your processes
• You, yourself, are interested in becoming an accredited lead appraiser and are looking for a recognized observer to help you complete your way to accreditation
• You are an investor and wish to evaluate the risks associated with injecting funds into a firm which develops software dependent solutions
• You would like your sub-contractors to commit to an analysis of their development or maintenance processes, and the development of improvement plans; they ask you where to find the necessary expertise

Consulting

...for planning or implementing software improvement actions and planning strategy.
For example:

• The management of your company or organization requests recommendations for a quality program; the software managers need an overview of the state of the art in the subject, to help them to develop a proposal for senior management.
• A client requires a certification of the software development practices in your company. Management would like to understand the goals in order to prepare the negotiations with the client
• You wish to create a process improvement group, but you don't know how to proceed

For example:

Measurement and Analysis Plan

If you are looking to shore up your management decision making process using actual performance data from past or ongoing projects, or to set organizational and project specific improvement goals, or to monitor progress against the goals, why not instantiate the Measurement and Analysis practices in the CMMI through a Measurement and Analysis Plan (MAP). With the support of a senior Alcyonix Consultant using a Goal, Question, Metrics (GQM) approach, standard templates and web based analysis and reporting tools, you can go live with your Measurement and Analysis Plan in a matter of weeks.
